Photograph by Basil Langton.
"Relatively rare in his oeuvres the figurative diptych MOTHER AND FATHER were begun on Coenties Slip but were brought to completion on the Bowery in 1967, the same year that the artist depicted another childhood memory, PARROT, in similar vein except, whereas his mother and father remain serenely silent, his Hoosier uncle's parrot - in rough and perhaps enigmatic Greek - cries 'Eureka'!"
